Opportunity was being given...

HI!!!
Can you please answer what the words in bold leters mean “I knew there was a possibility of being mistreated, but an opportunity was being given to me to do what I had asked of others.” (is it what other people wanted me to do?).

Other phrase which meaning is not clear to me is" to be lost in the retelling" I do appreciate Your explanation
thank You in advance!!!

Hi Iza,

Many thanks for your posting. I take it you are referring to passages of book you are currently reading.
The first phrase indicates that the author used to ask other people to do something and now they want him to do the same thing. He looks upon this as an opportunity although he is afraid of being treated unfairly.

As for the second sentence - I assume that somebody is recounting a story or an event but pieces of information are missing - they are lost in the retelling so the narrative is incomplete.[YSaerTTEW443543]

thank You Torsten!!! The sentences were from article not book

You had previously asked others to do something for you. Now you have an oportunity to do the same for them. To do ‘what you had asked of others’.

A game for the meaning of ‘to be lost in the retelling’ (or Chinese whispers) is to have a group of friends -5 or more is better - in a circleand make up a simple story, such as " There’s a big rat in the cupboard next to the firehose". One person whispers the story to the next, going around the circle. The story will be lost in the retelling.
