This sentence is in my English book

But I think that “a wad of dollar notes” should be replaced with “the one” not " the ones" Can you help me please? Thank you
It depends on whether the person is saying it/they are like the wad his dad had given him or like the notes his dad had given him.
In this example he is saying the notes (in the wad) are like the ones his father had given him, so the plural is used.
