can you explain what is the different between omit and exclude and exclusion and omission. meaning of these words look same for me. but there is a slight different . can you explain it to me…
[color=darkred]exclusion vs [color=darkred]omission
her exclusion from the list wasn’t intentional.
her omission from the list wasn’t intentional
[color=darkred]exclude vs [color=darkred]omit
she excluded her friend from the party.
she omitted her friend from the party.
“exclude” has a stronger sense of deliberately/intentionally not wanting something. “omit” can be more accidental or incidental. Hence in the first pair “omission” seems more likely.
Their uses can be synonymous. Where they are not synonymous, 'exclude/exclusion could indicate a deliberate action whereas ‘omit/omission’ indicates an accidental action. Often, this is clarified with the addition of the words ‘accidentally’, ‘deliberately’ or ‘imtentionally/uninteltionally’ as in your first example.
I dislike ‘omitted her friend from…’ in the second sentence. ‘She omitted her friend from the party list’ seems more likely, though this doesn’t change your question.
