Odd change of subject

:blossom: In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. :blossom:

Hi!

Conversation

A: Did you make it to school today?
B: I always do. Did you go to school today?
A: No, I didn’t.
B: You should have, but have you seen any movies lately?
A: That was an odd change of subject. ←
B: Maybe it was, but answer the question.
A: No, not recently.

1- What does “odd” mean here?

2- What does “That was an odd change of subject” mean ?

Thank you

In this context, ‘odd’ is a synonym for ‘strange’.

Other synonyms might be ‘weird’ or ‘unusual’.

In this case, A is is wondering how B jumped from one subject to a completely unrelated subject. So it is an odd change of subject.

If B changed the subject from ‘going to school’ to ‘going to college’, it would be related and not be so odd.
