occupant vs occupier

what’s the difference between occupant and occupier. The dictionary says the “occupier” is more popular with British English not US. is there any more different than this…?

There is a difference in meaning for me. ‘Occupier’ is often used as a form of address to the person living in a house where the writer of the letter or more likely the advertiser sending brochures.
