Hi. I’m new here and posted about possessives in the English language. I got an answer, had a couple more questions and cannot find the post now. I got an email saying I had a private message but when I got here, no messages and I can’t send one until I have made five posts.
I don’t know who messaged me, or why or why they didn’t just respond to topic.
I hope for help.

Here’s what is likely to have happened:
A spammer sent private messages to a load of people on the forum, including you.
Once their private message landed in your Inbox, this was flagged up as a new PM for you.
The spammer was then found out, and their account was deleted.
When a spammer’s account is deleted, then all their messages, including Private Messages (whether they’ve been read or not) are also deleted, but this doesn’t cancel the notice to someone that they have a PM.
So you received the notification, but by the time you looked, the spammer’s account had been cancelled. Therefore there is no longer any spam in your inbox.
