My name is Pavel, and I am curious about the difficulties faced by native Russian- or Ukrainian-speakers who are learning English as a second language. I know only a small amount of Russian (and I understand very little about Russian grammar). Please explain if any differences between our languages give you difficulties.
One of the main difficulties for native speakers of Slavic languages is to distinguish between the definite and indefinite article because those are non-existent in Russian, Polish, Ukrainian and so on. (I think in Bulgarian there is some kind of definite article though).
As for other differences I’m sure Jailbird can answer that question - she studies English as a Second Language in her home town Moscow.[YSaerTTEW443543]
