My unreal present conditional.

The following was a problem to me but it seems I have understood it somewhat:

  1. I know I would be able to do it when I came to it.
To me it a present unreal conditional. And to me the I am conditionally affirming that I could do it should it case it has happened.
Please, tutors rubber stamp it for me.

The combination of tenses in that sentence doesn’t seem right. It should be:

I knew I would be able to do it when I came to it.
I know I will be able to do it when I come to it.

Hi, Dozy Thanks for spotting that my blunder.
But I my right in my explanation? Concerning the conditional? My interpretation is that:
I could handle the situation should in case it happened. Please correct me if I am wrong in my understanding of the conditional “I knew I would be…”

It is not really a conditional sentence since it uses “when” rather than “if” (sorry, I should have mentioned that in my first reply).

“I know I will be able to do it when I come to it” is looking forward to a future event that is expected to happen.
“I knew I would be able to do it when I came to it” is the past-tense version of that sentence. “would” is the past tense of “will”.
