My intention is he + subjunctive?

Hi, could you please take a look at the sentence below and tell me whether this is an example of the subjuntive should be used or just bad grammar?

And my other intention is he learn to be a better writer in the process.

How about this:

And my other intention is for him to be (become) a better writer in the process.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Yes, that is subjunctive and it does not sound weird to me. :smiley: It basically means “… he should learn…”.

Your other sentence is also OK with become. (I don’t like it with be.)

Hi Torsten,

Don’t be afraid to add “that” in the examples below. While often dropped, it’s the classic indicator of the subjunctive in English and to some ears (mine included) ties it all together.

“And my other intention is that he learn to be a better writer in the process,” is perfect, as is, “And my other intention is that he become a better writer in the process.”
