Essay
I have always seen myself as a hard working person who constantly try to expand the perceptions of his knowledge in general and in the field of technology in particular . When you read my resume , you’ll see that I have several experiences and skills in my field. However , one thing is constant and it has proved to be my main quality over my working years : my true commitment to the enhancement and promoting of the learning process in my district and to be a paradigm in learning by using technology .
I grew up in a family that has always appreciated education and encouraged it . After I finished my secondary school , I didn’t enroll in the university directly due to the financial circumstances of my family and also because of the closure of universities in that period by the Israeli occupation . In 1991 I got admission at the Faculty of Science at Al-Fateh University in Libya . My joy to continue my university education was combined with some fears . That was my first time outside the home and away from my family . I moved to a completely new environment which I know nothing about . That was the turning point in my life ; the transition from dependence on the family to self-reliance in meeting all my personal needs, which contributed to the refinement of my personality.
At first I had a range of difficulties and obstacles in terms of housing and communicating with parents in Palestine, and mingle with others from several countries, and that was a real challenge to prove myself and achieve the goals I came here for, but in a short period I managed to adapt to the new environment and making friends from different nationalities and participate in activities organized by the Science Club in college. During my university, I went to multiple courses of the computer in order to gain as much of the skills and knowledge which had a positive impact on my academic studies and personal relationships and helping others to use computers.
When I graduated from Al- Fateh University, the head of the Department of Physics informed me that I was the first and got ( B ) degree, but unfortunately they couldn’t appoint me lecturer in the department because I am not Libyan . His words had a significant impact on my thinking and I owned to these words for the achievements and creative that I achieved in my different functional duties . So, I decided to go home to teach my people, and provide the skills that I learned during my university to my colleagues. Although I got a job as a teacher of physics and mathematics in the United Arab Emirates, I preferred to return to Palestine .
My return was a great joy for my family . They were happy and proud of me as I got a job in the same year I graduated. I have appointed in a high school as science teacher . During my five years as a teacher I taught: Mathematics, Science and Technology I participated in many exhibitions concerns education, but no joy completed because of the presence of a significant lack of educational and laboratory equipment to teach students, so I produce teaching aids and training of some enthusiasts teachers to produce tools and use some devices as the OHP and the LCD for teaching students . Due to lack computers in the schools , I had to use my own personal computer inside the school temporarily to view some educational CDs that I had produced in collaboration with some colleagues in the schools.
The Directorate of Education announced vacant posts in the Learning Resource
Center . That was an opportunity for creativity and excellence in my work and to change my job and social status, so I applied and won the job. I moved to the Resource Center, where my functions career allowed me to know directly about the realities of the use of technology in education in Palestine and also review the skills of teachers in the use of teaching aids and educational devices . I have discovered that the skills of teachers in the use of these are very little as well as the lack of many devices . Initially , I developed a plan to provide schools with computers and equipment in cooperation with the local community for each school and , then later I moved in a new phase, to the training of teachers the production of teaching aids using a computer and its accessories . In the first session I organized a workshop regarding the production of color transparencies and then training teachers on some software to use them in their class rooms like : Power Point , Macromedia Flash …etc. There was a turnout of schools to organize workshops and they expressed their needs to cooperate with the Directorate in the use of modern educational technologies in the educational process.
My work in the Department of Educational Techniques and Information Technology was not training for teachers only, but I started to develop my skills and acquire new ones in various fields. I myself learned many of the applications software programs such as: Flash, Dream Weaver, video editing software, and then transfer these skills to teachers through training to acquire new skills .
With the rapid growth of technology in the world especially the Internet , I began to develop a plan for using the Internet in education and use it to enhance the educational process, so I established an e-mail to communicate with teachers and schools, and then trained teachers on using internet in education ,design an official website for the directorate of education, design and publish Portfolio for teachers to use it in education .
My main achievements are : the computerization of the science curriculum for grades VII to IX in the form of simulation experiments and distributing them to schools to display to students within the project of ICT. The launch of an interactive discussion web site of the Palestinian curriculum helped to ease the burden on Palestinian families where the cost of special lessons are high as the site includes free lessons through virtual
classes . Working online training of hundreds of teachers from different parts of Palestine on the software : learning management system ( LMS) like : Moodle and Courselab , some designing programs . I formed a team to develop e-learning in the province to facilitate the task of teachers , this team composed of teachers from different areas of Palestine.
Although these skills gained through experiences and practices, it was a strong motivation to think about completing my degree in educational technology as a contribution to strengthen and improve the learning process. Due to the Israeli’s aggressive actions such as the closure of regions, the barriers and the separation wall that causes obstacles to education .There are hundreds of students who were unable to attend their schools and some could not complete their study because of these practices, so I believe - through my experience - that the use of technology in education will minimize the effects of the practices of occupation, and help us adapt with the world and be a part of the small village .
My dream to complete my supreme studies has never left my mind . My family’s encourage and my ambition which was created by the functional duties drove me to search for University scholarship for completing my studies in Educational Technology. Unfortunately ,my dream in getting scholarship was not fulfilled. When the Ministry of Education announced about the availability of scholarships in several fields in United States ( Fellowship Program) , I apply to it because it is a golden opportunity to achieve my ambition . I feel that my qualifications, experiences and interests are too much matching the program requirements.
Everybody dreams to complete his higher education in America, but everyone has his own circumstances . I rushed to apply for a scholarship to study in USA because it will help me to develop my skills and acquire new skills, improve my English Language , to know about the multi-culture of people and visit some USA schools to get knowledge about using of educational technology . When I obtained a degree from USA universities , that would help me to improve my financial position through working in the Palestinian universities, as well as my family will be very happy and proud of me because I finished my studies from the USA.
When I finish a postgraduate certificate , I will go back to Palestine to work on improving and strengthening the system of education, which I’ m part of it through transferring my experiences to the teachers and students in the regions , and by organizing specialized training courses according to the foundations of modern
education . Also by transferring these skills to my colleagues in other directorates of Education to train teachers . I will also work on cultural exchange through the establishment of twinning between some USA schools and Palestine.
