Mr. Peter Funk and Mr. Wilfred Funk

I would love to know if anyone knows the two gentlmen,Mr. Peter Funk and Mr. Wilfred Funk? Are they really as good at vocabulary as they seem to be from that impressive feature, It Pays To Enrich Your Word-Power?How can one remember so many words let alone use them?

Peter Funk is a vocabulary expert and linguist whose scholarly lineage includes a grandfather who founded Funk & Wagnalls, the dictionary and encyclopedia company, and a father, Wilfred Funk, who originated the Reader’s Digest Column (“It Pays to Enrich Your Word Power”) that he himself wrote from 1962 until 1998. Mr. Funk, along with his wife Mary, has written countless articles and numerous books on language and vocabulary building. His most recent project is an audio tape entitled “Upsize Your Word Power.”

The “Word Power” feature in Reader’s Digest was created in 1945 by Wilfred Funk, so I assume that Peter Funk must have taken over in 1962.

By the way, Reader’s Digest has an online version of “Word Power” on their website. It’s in the form of a vocabulary game. (But in order to play you first have to register.)
