Mr. Fowler, your reputation precedes you.

Hi all of you,

What does the following sentence mean?

  • Mr. Fowler, your reputation precedes you.

I think I know what it means i.e. you know someone’s reputation before you meet or when you meet them. However I can’t find the correct meaning in any of my dictionaries.

Thanks.

James, you corrected Alexandro’s sentence but forgot to mention that he is correct about the meaning.

Oh yeah, another muddling.

Thanks Beeesneees. What was wrong with my two last sentences? And thank you too James.

Absolutely nothing, Alexandro.
James is once again trying to wind people up (tease them).
