More fun vs "funnier"

Hi everyone,

“Adrian has a big advantage over you.”

“Oh yeah? And what’s that? Is he more fun than me?”

“No, it’s not that. He’s single and you’re not.”

Right. I assume that is not possible to say “Is he FUNNIER than me?”. Am I wrong?

Thanks.

“Is he funnier than me?” is fine, but it does not mean exactly the same as “Is he more fun than me?”.

“funnier” is more restricted to making people laugh (it could also mean “odder”, but that meaning is not likely here). “more fun” covers a wider range of qualities that make someone enjoyable to be with, such as being lively, outgoing, cheerful, wanting to do a variety of interesting activities, and so forth.

Hi Dozy,

It’s clear now. Thanks a lot.
