Mobile phone, cell phone, smartphone?

There was a time way back when mobile phones started showing up when I learned that the term ‘mobile phone’ is British while the Americans say ‘cell phone’.

Now, we refer to these devices as ‘smartphones’. Is ‘smartphone’ an international term or is it British or American?

As I observe, ‘smartphones’ is being recognized as an international term.
