- He is rich but miserly.
- He is a rich man but a miserly person.
- He is a miserly boy.
- He is a miser boy.
Are these sentences OK?
Thanks
- He is rich, but miserly.
- He is a rich man, but a miserly person.
- He is a miserly boy.
- He is a miser.
‘Miserly’ tends to be used predicatively rather than attributively . I think I’ve got that right but it ain’t half hot here!
Alan,
So I should not use: ‘He is a miserly boy.’
In this sentence, ‘miserly’ is used attributively.
Am I correct or not?
Thanks.
There is nothing wrong in saying 'He is a miserly person/boy, etc. It’s an appropriate adjective to use.
Beeesneees,
Thanks for clarification.
