what is the meaning of until and unless? can we use it in the same sentence?
You ought to use a good Learner’s Dictionary.
“You can continue to work until lunchtime, unless you finish the essay before that.”
Bee,
I think he meant to ask whether a sentence like the one below would be considered correct.
Please continue working on this unless and until someone from the HR department asks you to stop.
Does the expression unless and until exist? Would a native speaker use it?
By the way, it’s used a lot in India.
Thanks for the clarification, Daemon.
A native speaker would say,
“Please continue working on this unless someone from the HR department asks you to stop.”
This is all that is required. It is unnecessary to say ‘until’. You continue working unless you are told otherwise. When you are told otherwise, then you stop as directed.
