Meaning of the song: " La isla Bonita"

Hi

Could you please tell me if the following song has any meaning at all? The lines are easy but as a whole I cannot make any head or tail of it! Not at all!

Last night I dreamt of san pedro
Just like Id never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

Chorus:

Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes
Your spanish lullaby

The beautiful island

I fell in love with san pedro
Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me
Te dijo te amo
I prayed that the days would last
They went so fast

He told you, I love you

(chorus)

I want to be where the sun warms the sky
When its time for siesta you can watch them go by
Beautiful faces, no cares in this world
Where a girl loves a boy, and a boy loves a girl

Last night I dreamt of san pedro
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

Hello Amy

Have you heard the song? Would you say it has any meaning?

Tom

Hi Tom

It simply sounds like she is reminiscing about an island and a short romance that she had on that island.

Amy

I really think this song is about drugs. I am from Latin America, a wild species of cactii called “San Pedro” can be found anywhere near bolivia, Peru, and even in the caribbean sea, I’m guessing that Madonna was in any place in south america, let’s say, Ecuador, had a really good Pedro trip and decides to write this song. Madonna is really evil.

And she talks about “samba” she probably is talking about any island of brazil, and drugs, naturally.

I always thought that the singer is yearning to return to San Pedro in Belize for she fell in love with the life style and samba music there, and “La isla bonita” means “beautiful island”.
