Hello Oranzo, “would you like” is used as a polite form to say that you want something.
imagine that you are a teacher, you wont just say to your students " would you like…" is used as a polite form to say you want something. you are right about that, but my question how to explain this phrase to a group of beginners.
Oranzo, why do you not begin you sentences with capital letters?
because here it is like chating, and the language we use is informal sometimes. so it is not a big deal to pay attention to these minor details. Besides, no one yet answered my question. better to think about an answer to my question, pls.thank you
Oranzo,
this is not a chatroom.
People who come here want to learn proper English and not chatroom lingo.
Here we say please not ‘pls’.
If you are a teacher you should know how easily bad habits are picked up, and how hard it is to get rid of them after.
‘Would you like’ is a more polite form of asking ‘Do you want’.
Thank you miss Shyone for your kind reply. No I am not a teacher, I hope I can become a teacher, agood teacher hopefully, one day. Thank you for you advice as well. I will pay more attention to my language next time. Do you mind if you answer more questions please? I came through a sentence and i didnt know what proper tense should I use? The sentence is " When I got to the station, I realised I left the tickets at home" or better to say: " When I got to the station, I realised I had left the tickets at home". This is to suggest that one action happened before the other. Please, remember the more you answer my questions, the more I feel tempted to ask. Thank you again
The second one sounds better.
Thank you miss Milanya for replying.
Ask away. That is what this forum is for.
