“Reality” is a currently popular genre of TV show that puts non-stars in contrived situations. I think the term is a misnomer, as I do not see anything remotely approaching ‘reality’ in the shows.
Please explain the bold words.
Genre means type, when we refer to literature, theater, TV, etc.
Contrived situations are artificially created situations. They’re situations that don’t happen naturally.
A misnomer is an inaccurate name.
If something is not remotely approaching reality, it means it’s not close to or at all similar to reality.
This, by the way, has been a complaint of mine for years. The term “reality TV” used to describe shows in which cameras caught action that was real. For example, a cameraman would follow the police around and show things that were really happening. Now the term is used to describe a type of weird game show.
