Meaning of Passage

“…only the passage of centuries or millennia will enable new soil to form.”

What does passage here mean?

I think that centuries and millenia ago new soil will be enable  …cooliegirly
Centuries and millenia imply many, many, many, many times

I’d understand passage here as the general reference to the ‘time flow’.
So - as times goes by (looong time, many centuries going one by one, “in passage”), new soil will be formed.

Yes, Tamara. After passing centuries and millenia new soil will be formed

Ah, ok. Thank you.
