Hi, Torsten

why “on the basis” and not “on the ground” ?
for me they are pretty much the same…

thanks

Hi,
Where is the different between “basis” and “base”? Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance

Hi LS,

Good to hear from you again.

I think it would be more common, at least for me, to say ‘on the grounds’.

Alan

Hi Loverose,

Putting it very simply I would say ‘base’ is actual and ‘basis’ is abstract. When we talk about the base of a column or pillar in a building , we are talking about the actual bottom part of it. When we talk about the basis of an argument, we are using it figuratively to refer to the main principles that lie at the bottom of an argument/discussion.

Alan

Oh, I grasped the problem, Mr.Alan,
Again, thanhks for your help,
Best regards,
