Meaning of 'die hard'

Can someone please tell me what ‘die hard’ means?

A die-hard is a very tough person who is capable of fighting against several men at the same time. Pretty much like Bruce Willis ;-).[YSaerTTEW443543]

Torsten’s ‘die-hard’ is a more positive character, though!

Or like a certain Yank who continues to post in this forum – despite efforts by a certain founder to get rid of her.
.

Yes, some Yanks are real tough cookies and those posting on ESL forums are the toughest ;-).[YSaerTTEW443543]
