Marque vs brand

I understand that the word ‘marque’ is used as a synonym for ‘brand’ when referring to cars but what about other industries? In what context is ‘marque’ still being used? By the way, in German we still say ‘Marke’ when talking about any product. So, the German word ‘Marke’ is just a slightly germanised version of the French original ‘marque’. As far as I know, the Russians use the word ‘марка’ in pretty much the same way. They even have the term ‘иномарка’ which means ‘foreign brand’ describing products made outside of Russia.

Иномарка means a foreign car brand.

Я помню время когда было престижно ездить на иномарке, а теперь любой уважающий себя гражданин России ездит на нормальной машине, то есть на иномарке. Я правильно рассуждаю :-)?

Absolutely.
Но в регионах еще не мало поклонников жигулей.
