Make an Exception

Hi,
Which one is correct?

1-Make an exception to something
2-Make an exception for something

Thanks
Swan

Both are possible in suitable contexts.

Could you give me an example of the two usages?

Usually members have to be 21 to join, so letting him join at the age of 20 is an exception to our usual rule.
Usually members have to be 21 to join, but we will make an exception for him as it is only a month before his 21st birthday. He can join now.

In this case, ‘exception to something’ and ‘exception for someone’, but that is not a rule you can apply across the board. It is possible to have an ‘exception for something’ too (though I can’t think of an instance where you would have an ‘exception to someone’.)

BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG LIKE and KISSSS. Thanks a lot
