made it happen

  1. That was only thought, but the guys made it happen.
  2. That was only thought, but the guys made it happens.
  3. That was only thought, but the guys made it happened.
Please correct the above and comment.
    Thanks.

I think you probably mean, that was only a thought/a wish/ an idea, but the guys made it happen. (made it come true).

Why not ‘That was only my thinking but the guys made it happen’?

English is full of choices and options.
That said ‘… my thinking’ does not fit as well there as ‘a thought’ or ‘my thought’
and ‘an idea’ or ‘my idea’ is likely to convey the meaning more accurately.

Note - it must be ‘made it HAPPEN’.

Choices and options should convey the original idea/thought. Can you explain and exemplify why ‘my thinking’ does not fit as well there as ‘a thought’ or ‘my thought’ and ‘an idea’ or ‘my idea’? A mere comment does not serve the purpose for which a question is posted. The position needs to be made as clear as possible as I do in most of the cases depending on the poster. Here, whose thought it is is not expressed.

If ‘choices and options should convey the original idea/thought’ then my choice DID just that!
I believe the original question used ‘thought’ equal to ‘idea’, which is why I gave three possibilities.
Allifathima did not use a pronoun, which is why I didn’t use a pronoun.

You are the one who introduced ‘my’ and ‘thinking’ after the fact. It doesn’t fit in as well because thinking does not equate to ‘idea’ as well as ‘thought’ does.

Exemplify your explanation.

Alan/Beeesneees/Anglophlie,
Alan says :“it must be 'made it HAPPEN.”
Why can’t it be “made it HAPPENs” or “made it HAPPENed”?
Could you explain the grammar involved in it?
Thanks.

I could not but be surprised at your question, Fathima. You might wonder why. It is one of the very basics you were expected to be familiar with. Well, know that ‘make’ can function as a causative verb. While so, it takes only a bare infinitive in the active voice. See the following examples.

I made you understand.
You made the cat run.
She made him work.
He made her weep.

Look in a dictionary. Find the meaning and synonyms of ‘idea’ and/or of ‘thought’.

If you couldn’t, how can I?

I can. Look in a dictionary and you will too.

Then do it and let others, particularly the poster, know what you have understood.

If this is a request you appear to have missed a word from both posts #5 and #14.

You know that I often tell learners to look in a dictionary and develop independence. I’m sure that someone who has already developed the degree of independence that you have is capable of doing the same.

As for the understanding of the original poster, I repeat, there was not originally any question of using ‘my thinking’.

That was only a correction I made as you do often with many posts by imposing your own way of thinking, which is usually expedient.

It was an unnecessary correction.
In fact, it wasn’t a correction at all.

I don’t do that. Another misconception on your part.

Have the last word by all means - you’ve dragged another thread into the gutter, and Allifathima has probably long stopped reading it.

It was an attempt to make her understand. She knows it very well. I can also see her furtive smile at what is worthlessly going on between us now.
