I don’t know what is the difference between “life” and “lives” ( the plural ).

I’m not sure I understand your question since you’ve already identified “lives” as the plural form of “life”.
There is an old saying that “a cat has nine lives”.
You can talk about the life of one person OR you can talk about the lives of several people.
The pronunciation of “lives” (plural noun) is different from “lives” (third person singular verb, simple present tense)

Maybe my initial question was unclear. I meant when we should use “people’s lives”, “people’s life”, “life of people” or “lives of people”.
