Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Nowadays technological improvements have changed our lives in different aspects. Some people believe that today our lives is better than one hundred years ago while others opposes this point. I personally belive that positive effects of technology on our lives is more than negative effects especially considering improvements of humans in inventing new machines and in health related issues.
To begin, nowadays we have access to some machines and devices that did not exist before. Inventing these machines and devices have made our lives easier and more enjoyable. For example, we have cellphones which our grandfathers did not have. We can call our friends and our families whereever we are and talk to them and even we can take a photo with our cellphone when we travell to other cities and send share them on the Facebook. We can travell from The U.S to The U.K. on plane in less than ten hours while our grandparents could not even imagine these improvements.
Furthemore, along with technoological improvements in different aspects, scientists have done lots of research to improve our health and they have invented many methods and drugs to heal our illnesses. For instance many many research papers have published just in heart attack and therefor nowadays iif one have a disease he/she will have more chance to treat it. That’s why life expectancy increased in all countries and in some developed countries like Japan life expctancy is more than eighty years.
To sum up I belive that technological improvements have lots of positive effects on our lives and we can control its negative effects to have even better lives than this.
Hi, your writing is pretty good in this one, but I think you could have focused on the prompt a little more specifically. The prompt specifically mentions ease and comfort,
but you have focused on cellphones and transportation and then medical advances,
but you don’t show exactly how these make our lives easier or more comfortable.
It seems easier to focus on actual comfort-increasing advances. Maybe air conditioning and hot water heaters, which make life more comfortable, and appliances like dishwashers and washing machines which make life easier, along with advances in automation and machinery, which make our jobs much less strenuous and therefore easier and more comfortable. Your writing is clear, but make sure to be careful with your subject-verb agreement, as well as your spelling errors.
There are a lot of challenges that we encounter in our lives. People need to get over these difficulties to live a better life. Some may think life is getting more difficult over the years, but I strongly disagree with this. In my opinion, there were many more difficulties when our grandparents were children than today.
First of all, transportation is getting easier. Nowadays, we can reach our destination faster and more comfortable than in the past. We have amazing vehicles that make our lives easier than ever before. It took days to go from the East Coast to the West Coast. But now it only takes 4-5 hours, you seat your back and fly! You are like a Greek myth now, you can fly around the world. Isn’t it amazing? Since it was more challenging to reach distant areas, people were able to travel less and have less knowledge about different cultures.
Besides, the discovery of the phone and the internet made our life easier in a variety of aspects. First, we are now able to communicate with people whom we loved even if there is a huge distance between us. We can share our feelings, display our affection, tell each other our problems and take advice with phones. Even though it is not the same as seeing people in person, it is a lot better than in the past. Secondly, humanity is in the information era. Humanity has never been able to reach information faster and more accurate than the 21st Century. Thus, people can use their cumulative knowledge to make the world a better place. For example, when I was preparing for the interviews last summer, I learned so many things from the people that passed interviews successfully before. It was meant a lot to me because I didn’t know what I was about to encounter.
In conclusion, people’s lives are way more easy and comfortable in this century. We can share our feelings and experience, visit each other and make fun. People should enjoy all of the opportunities which this century made possible!
Hi Burak, Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this topic. You have given us food for thought because all your points are valid and valuable. Well done, you’ve done a great job! Take care, Andrea
I would say in those days it was extremely tough and they had more challenges for sure. Nowadays, we have everything on a plate, if I could say it like that. Everything seems to be given to us so easily. Our grandparents sacrificed a lot but I think they were more free than we are today. Technology has taken over our lives compared to those days. I think back then, people would spend more time with each other than we do today. Communicating using technology is less personal, I think anyway. Face-to-face is a much better option if possible.
I think we have much more choice now as to who we want to connect and communicate with. Our grandparents were way more limited in their choice. They had far less access to knowledge, information, transportation, etc.
Whether or not technology takes over our lives as you put it, Andrea, is a choice we make. Thanks to the internet Burak, you and me can exchange their ideas and thoughts about any topic and potentially we could also decide to continue our conversation through a face-to-face meeting. Our grandparents couldn’t even dream of that.
Yes, @Torsten. You are right! It is a choice that we make regarding technology. It is certainly a great way to connect people for sure. If we didn’t have the internet we would not know as much as we do today. The world is a much smaller place now because of the internet! This is apt: “The world is your oyster”.
Exactly. As with any new technology we have the choice as to how we use it. When the wheel was invented it was a breakthrough technology. Now we could argue that the wheel was used to torture people and build machines such as tanks that killed millions of people. Today we can use AI to get rid of monotonous, mind-numbing toil to free our mental and creative resources for those things we are better at than any machines.
