Let the boy "plays" or Let the boy "play"?

Hello,
Which one is correct?

  • Let the boy plays.
  • Let the boy play.

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Hello, Black Citadel:

James: Can I go play outside?
Father: No, Jimmy. It’s too cold today. Stay inside and watch TV.
Mother: Oh, it’s not that cold. (You) let the boy play.
Father: OK, darling. I will let the boy play.

We do not use the -s form for “boy” because we are NOT dealing here with the third person. We are actually dealing with the so-called bare infinitive. After some verbs, we do not use the “to.” Compare: I told the boy TO play.

James

Hi,

I think you mean no ‘s’ for ‘play’, not for ‘boy’.

Thank you, Alan.
