Hi Torsten, I am new to this forum, and i liked it very much, i think it is an ideal place to learn english. My native language is Punjabi (From Punjab,India), my main problem is that i use to speak lot in my native language at my place & i think this is the reason that i can’t speak english very well,i can listen to,speak fluently(by reading) but when it comes to daily conversation or interview like situtations, i just freezes, words don’t come in my mind.I have tried many things like speaking in english with my friends, worked on my vocabulary etc., but the problem is that i start it with great spirit but slowly my interest becomes low and what i get is problem in speaking in english. So what do you think, what should be the strategy for me to improve my speaking skills? (Forgive me for any mistakes in my written english, i am also working on it). :?:

Hello Torsten,

May I also send one of my audio files to you and have your feedback on my accent?

If positive, I will be most grateful.

Thanks a lot.
Mohammad

Of course you can, Mohammad. We look forward to receiving and listening to your audio recording.

At first I should say I’m very grateful. A query: Where should I put the audio file? Shall I send it to your mail box? If positive, what’s your email address?

Hear from you soon.
Mohammad

I was expecting a positive reply from you, Torsten! I feel like nobody saw my post?

Hi Majorgeek,

Sorry for not responding to your message – I think the best method of developing your speaking skills is to listen more to English. In addition, you might want to read How to learn English and let me know what you think.

Hello Torsten,

Please tell me does my voice sound robotic? Is it near American accent, British, a mixture of both or none of them? How do I pronounce the words?

I must confess to not being able to make it better. I’m very eager to have your advices on it.

Sincerely Yours,
Mohammad

Hi Mohammad,

I will tell you what I think about your accent as soon as you send me your recording so I can listen to it.
Thanks,
Torsten

Hi,

Why not just use a tape recorder for recording your voice? Then you could send the audio cassette to Torsten…

All the best

Hi Mohammad,

I think your voice sounds very pleasant and your pronunciation is very clear and easy to understand. To give you a more comprehensive assessment I’d need a longer recording of yours.
