Hi,
It’s ladies fingers or lady’s fingers?
2.You should cut off the ‘tip’ of the ladies/lady’s fingers. I wonder what’s the antonym for ‘tip’ in this context?
Thanks.

Hi Rickyrocky,
There is a food (dessert) known as ‘lady fingers’ (no S on the word ‘lady’), and I suppose if you wanted to refer to a single one, it would be ‘a lady finger’.
lady fingers
This would sound as if you were referring to the fingers on a particular woman’s hands and were instructing someone to carry out some sort of surgical operation on her hands (i.e. remove the ends of that woman’s fingers).
If you ‘cut off the tip of some lady fingers’, then you would cut off a very small piece from one end.
Why do you want to know an antonym for ‘tip’? Or did you mean ‘synonym’?

The vegetable Okra is also known as lady’s finger(s). I suspect that it is the vegetable which needs the tips cut off!
Ha! Good that you knew that, Bev. I really was picturing some poor woman with bloodied fingertips. lol

(You also may have guessed by now that I’ve never eaten okra…)[/size]

Beeesneees, Yup, it’s the other end of the vegetable which needs to be cut off. That’s why I was asking for the antonym for it (tip).
You’ve never eaten an okra? You must be kidding me!
It’s pretty delicious if you order it at some Chinese restaurant.
It’s normally stir-fried with Soy sauce; or, topped with oyster sauce.
I think the antonym would be the stem. Love my okra!
I found this sentence on a website. Just to share it out.
‘When cutting the okra, just cut the top of the crown off that connects to the vine.’

That’s okay… give me ladyfinger biscuits over lady’s fingers vegetables any day of the week!
