Hi, I’ve just come across the term ‘jobless rate’ on the BBC and I wonder what the difference between jobless rate and unemployment rate might be. Can anyone shed some light on this please? Many thanks, Torsten

It’s just another way of saying the same thing. ‘Unemployment rate’ is a standard expression used in an official sense. ‘Jobless’ perhaps makes the statistic sound slightly less official making you think of the people involved.
