It is often not a good thing to move to a new city or a new country because of the lose of old friends
In present-day society, friendships are at heart of our life. Not only are they fun to hang out with, but they also are indispensable to help us to get over troubles. Someone argue that moving to a new place is an unworthy experience as it poses a threat to making deep and lasting relationships. From my point of view, I strongly against the statement and reckon that the benefits of settling down in a new place outweigh the drawbacks of it.
First of all, the distance does no serious harm to maintain a sincere friendship. As the saying goes,“No distance of place or lapse of time can lessen the friendship of those who are thoroughly persuaded of each other’s worth.”. The friendship between two intimate friends, who separated by the distances, would keep kindled, if they make it a point to stay in touch with each other. Even if they have lost touch for a while, their hearts remain close. For example, Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry, became friends when they acted in Friends. Although both of them are too busy to contact with each other, Matthew still claims that Jennifer is one of his best friends for life.
On the contrary, moving to a new place earns us the chance to make new friends. Granted, moving to a new place means all people and environment are so different and unfamiliar that it would take us a while to get into the swing of things. However, thinking in term of the good outcome, it is also a perfect timing for us to become acquainted with one another and even to make friends with some of them. In addition, to involve our ‘old’ friend with the ‘new’ one, new friendships could be formed while old friendships could be strengthened.
Finally, it is no exaggeration to say that many aspects of our life will benefit from moving to a new place. Moving can help an individual to find out which place is the best and most suitable for him. What’s more, learning distinct things and communicating with diverse people of a new place not only offer brand new information, it also casts a new light on previous viewpoints. By comparing the earlier and latter thoughs, individuals would become well-informed about the world, hence, gaining a competitive edge in this age.
Above all, I totally disagree with the statement that moving is not a good thing because we may lose our old friends. I believe nothing would lose by moving to a new place and some good may result from it, such as expanding one’s outlook, obtaining plentiful opportunities and consorting with diverse people.
