Is it possible to learn a whole oxford english dictionary?

Hi,

Is it possible to learn a whole oxford english dictionary? If yes tell me how can
i learn whole oxford english dictionary and give me tips 'how to learn more n more
vocabulary from my oxford english dictionary?

If any body have answer of my question, plz tell me.

Thanks.

Hi lovelyjitu,

Yes, it is possible but in my opinion not a good idea. A dictionary should be used as a source of information to look up the meaning and use of words and not as a piece of continuous prose. What I suggest is that you look up the meaning of a word new to you that you have heard or read and the most important thing is that you remember how it was used - in which context.

Good luck

Alan

Hi lovelyjitu,

I think Alan has made an excellent point and I’d like to add the following: Instead of trying to learn separate words you should try to learn phrases. For example, your sentence “If any body have answer of my question, plz tell me.” does not exist in English. It should read: If anybody has an answer to my question, please let me know." So instead of cramming the meanings of words into your head, listen to interesting audio materials or read good books. By the way, if you look up words like “I”, “English” and “Oxford” in your dictionary, you will find that you spell them differently.[YSaerTTEW443543]
