Is it "is" or "are"

Hello all,

Long back I read that when there is a group of people doing some action in unanimity then “is” is used but if there are discorded voices then “are” is used, i.e.

Jury has taken decision unanimously.
Jury were divided in their opinion.

But now a days I see only plural usages here in India, so it becomes

Jury havetaken decision unanimously.
Jury were divided in its opinion.

Any thoughts?

When a group is acting together, you have the option of singular or plural.

This is not possible, however: ‘[The] jury were divided in its opinion.’

I guess u mean it should be -

‘[The] jury were divided in their opinion.’

right?

Yes

Thanks
