Interests lie in...

Hi,

Just stumbled upon the following sentence

My client’s interests lie in proving that her husband and his lawyer conspired to defraud her

I take it that “somebody’s interests lie in something” means that “something is in somebody’s best interests”,
Am I right?
Also, is the phrase “somebody’s interests lie in something” commonplace?

Thank you!

You are right in your interpretation.
The phrase is the sort of thing heard in television and film courtroom drama. It’s common enough to be easily understood.

Thanks Bev, I’ve grasped the meaning!
