Hello Kitosdad. Thakns for reviewing my Integrated essay.
The passage is about the effect of productivity and rewards, and the way they can effect the employees. According to the passage, if rewards such as comapny paid vacations and job promotions are set correctly, they can be incentives for the employees to work harder, increase their motivations, and achieve the best and most significant results.
However, the lecturer casts doubt on this notion/belief. He thinks that based on some studies, rewards can be considered as punishmnets for the employees. People want to be paid and gain respect instead of being rewarded. He thinks that the employees may think that they are under the control of another person and being manipulated by the rewards. Furthermore, rewards can be disappointing. for example, an employee may get disappointed by not geting the reward he was thinking about.
In addition, relationships may get damaged. To demonstrate this fact, he gives an example of the relationship of an employee with his supervisor who always tends to withhold the reward. Therefore, the employee may not approach the supervisor to ask about any of his problems.
In conclusion, from proffessor’s point of view, it is not a good approach to rewarding people so as to enhance the productivity.
