Hello teachers,

I saw the following sentence in an English-teaching magazine:

My question is: why is it “on the TV” and not “on TV”? I learnt that “on TV” means it is shown on TV as in a TV programme, while “on the TV” means on the television set?

This is common usage. On (the) TV is specifying a particular medium, as opposed to at (the) movies, in (the) newspapers, etc.
