IN THE FIELD OR ON THE FIELD

HI EVERYBODY,

CAN YOU KINDLY SHOW ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “IN THE FIELD” AND “ON THE FIELD”?

MOREOVER, WHICH ONE IS CORRECT TO COMPLETE THE SENTENCE

I GO FISHING ON THE RIVER OR IN THE RIVER

I SWIM ON THE SEA /IN THE SEA OR UNDER THE SEA

THANKS

I go fishing in the river. (because you are in a boat floating on the surface)
I swim in the sea. (because you are immersed in the water).

We’ll play games in the field. (enclosed within the area)
We’ll play games on the field. (on that patch of land)

  • so it all depends on the sentence and exact meaning. For example. when speaking about sporting activities ‘on’ would usually be the correct option.

Please do not post using all capital letters.

Mrdhdang, please stop SHOUTING. Thanks.[YSaerTTEW443543]
