In one's grasp of the idiom

Hi, please could you explain the meaning of “in his grasp of the idiom” in the following sentense?
In the confined, gossipy world of British blues, Theo is spoken of as a man of promise, already mature in his grasp of the idiom

To me it means that the person is capable of using the idiom correctly and effectively. Let’s see what @Andrea, @Alan and @Anglophile think.

The expression usually is - with a firm grasp of. That indicates as Torsten has already said, that you fully understand something and know how to use it. ‘Idiom’ can generally mean - genre, type, variation. Here I think ‘genre’ fits the bill.
