I'm done and I've done

I’m wondering and would like to learn more on these two sentences:

  1. I’ve done the monthly report.
  2. I’m done with the monthly report.

Which one is more proper to use?

Thanks,
Radeth

They both seem proper to me. But they are meaning different things.

  1. It means that I am in a routine.
  2. I finished the montly report, and does not imply a routine, maybe an habit. (Or maybe ‘’ I’m done with you ‘’ could mean ‘give up’.)

I have done = you have finished the report : present perfect
I am done = present tense (done is adj) : a routine

I’ve done the monthly report = maybe next month the report will not be done by you (by sb else)

I am done … =maybe you do this report every month and you have finished it already (maybe in this morning…).

Hi. I don’t agree with either of the preceding explanations. Neither implies or a routine or habit inherently.

There is no significant difference between these two sentences in meaning. The first indicates recently completed action, and “I am done” is often used for just that.
