If I were you, I'd be very careful with my, your. Please, shed some light on this

Hi

Watching television I heard a few lines which puzzle me a bit. Here they are:

  • I would be very careful about the next step I’d take. The actress was speaking to another one and I think this is a conditional sentence and she did not add ‘if I were you’. Probably because it was not in the script.

  • If I were you I’d be very careful about your/my suitcases when you’re in that town. What should it be ‘my’ or ‘your’. Logically thinking, I’d say ‘your’, because the line continues with with 'when you’re in that that town. Is my thinking correct?

Please, shed some light on this.

I think you mean ‘actress’. In the original sentence there is an element of the subjunctive and the ‘If I were you’ idea is implied since this is a hypothetical situation. By not using it, I would suggest ‘your’ but if you add it to the sentence, you make the advice more personal and it would be appropriate to use ‘my’.
