If he's given two guesses vs. If they gave him two possibilities

Hi,

"- Can a politician tell the difference between right and wrong?

  • Yes. If he’s given two guesses."

I would like to know if I could also say “Yes. If they gave him two possibilities”.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Greetings.

“Two guesses” works much better in that sentence. You can say “two possibilities”, but it has a different meaning and doesn’t work as well in that sentence.
