Some people believe that the government should spend money on building train and subway lines to reduce traffic congestion. Others think that building more and wider roads is the better way to reduce traffic congestion. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
On these days, solutions for the traffic congestion has become a hotly - debated topic in many countries. Some people point out that constructing modern railway systems is the important method to resolve the traffic jam, while others support that enlarging roads and building more new roads bring more benefits. In my opinion, however, I believe that resolving traffic congestion effectively need to combine different methods instead of only a method.
First and foremost, it is clearly seen that increasing the size of roads and making new roads help reduce density of vehicles on roads, and thus make a great contribution to reduce traffic jam. However, this is a short-time solution because governments cannot continue to narrow land area of settlements, parks, schools or hospitals in cities to only serve transportation, while urban population tend to increase gradually.
On the other hand, building train and subway lines is also a long-term solution for the traffic congestion, which governments should consider. This is because trains can carry a greater number of passengers for each trip than vehicles on road can such as car, bus or motorcycles. Moreover, subways are constructed independently underground and don’t go through intersections. Thus, it allows residents to move faster, avoiding congestion in rush hours.
This is not to say that investing in train and subway lines only brings advantages. In fact, building and maintaining subway systems require great budgets and high technology, which a lot of developing countries do not have. Therefore, countries need to find compatible solutions in their ability in order to reduce traffic congestion.
Hi Hoangle, I thought you did a great job on this essay. You have addressed the topic well and have a good format. Your writing is clear and understandable, though you do have some errors in usage and a few odd sounding phrases. I think I would rate this a band 6.5, but it is very close to a 7.
