Is "wish" correctly used?

That is an awkward use of the word ‘wish’. I would leave it out. Hope and wish have different meanings, but they are close enough in meaning that it almost sounds redundant. ‘Hope’ has more of a positive and realistic feel to it. ‘Wish’ has more of a fantasy feel. It is usually not realistic. I can run a kilometer in 5 minutes. I hope to do it in 4 minutes and 30 seconds within a year. My friend flew to Hawaii for vacation. I wish I was there.
