I wandered through the empty streets VS I wandered for the desert roads

Hi,

I wandered through the empty streets and I wondered where I was. Could I also say “I wandered for the desert roads and I wondered where I was”?

Thanks in advance. Cheerio

No, you can’t wander “for” something.

(Well, you can wander “for” a period of time, but that’s different)

Thanks, Dozy. (I guess that desert roads is fine.)

Yes, “desert roads” is OK, but note that you normally wander “along” roads, rather than “through” them (especially when they are outside towns or cities). You can also just say “wandered the desert roads”.

Thanks once again, Dozy.

Have a good day.

I don’t think ‘desert roads’ is correct here, as I suspect that the meaning is not ‘roads in a desert’.
I think the meaning is ‘deserted roads’.

Oh yes, I think you are right Beeesneees.

Alright, so I guess that “I wandered (along) the deserted roads and I wondered where I was” is correct.

Right. (“desert roads” is correct English but would mean roads in an arid region.)

Alright, it’s definitively clear, now.
