Hi!

Conversation

A: Do you know what you’re going to do this weekend?
B: I am going to see a movie with a friend of mine. What about you?

What does “see” refer to? One preson (B) OR Two persons (B+a friend of mine)
I mean, Is “see” plural or singular here?

A: I don’t know.
B: Would you like to see a movie with me and my friend?

What does “see” refer to? One preson (A) OR Three persons (A+B+my friend)
I mean, Is “see” plural or singular here?

Thank you

I am going to see a movie with a friend of mine.

A friend and I are going to see a movie.

See is an irregular verb.

See is first person. It can be singular or plural.
Sees is third person. It is always singular.

I see you.
You see me.

We see you.
You see us.

They see you.
You see them.

He sees you.
You see him.

I see Jack
Jack sees me.

I see Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill see me.

Notice that the only time you use ‘sees’ is third person singular.

Saw is past tense.
Seen is past participle
Have/had seen is the perfect tense.
Seeing is continuous tense.

I know I didn’t really answer your question because I don’t know the answer.

Both people are going to see the movie. So in that sense, it’s plural.

I am going to see a movie.

This is a complete sentence and should be structured as such. The structure is singular.

“With a friend” is additional information. It does not affect the structure of the main clause.

Someone who is better at grammar might be able to explain it better.

Here I think that to see is actually the infinitive form of the verb and so plural and singular don’t apply. It just “names the action” without being the verb in the sentence. The actual noun and verb in the sentence do agree:
I am going…

I am going to see a movie.
He is going to see a movie
They are going to see a movie.

The infinitive “to see” doesn’t change.
