How to say you had a big breakfast

Is it idiomatic to say “I had/ate a lot of breakfast” to mean “I had a big breakfast”? Does “I had a lot for/at breakfast” work? What are other common ways of saying you had a big breakfast?

Thanks,
Carrie

Yes, those are all common informal expressions.

I remember that my American friend always said: “I have a big breakfast” to answer me whenever I asked him to go for lunch.

No, he said, ‘I had a big breakfast’. You misheard.

Thank you, Mister Micawber and Hieupt.

Actually, someone (a nonnative speaker of English but she’s very good) told me “I had a lot of breakfast” doesn’t sound very natural and it’s better to say “I had a big breakfast.”

So she was mistaken?

‘Big’ is more common, I think.

Thanks. I appreciate your help, Mister Micawber.
