How long were planning to wait before you told us why you really went to London

I was watching Downton Abbey last night and I heard this sentence.

  • Why ‘before you told us…’ is it a subjunctive?

Welcome, @Masme.
To me, it does not appear to be a subjunctive. It is a subordinate clause with a clear SVO order and there is no mood indicating a wish, desire or a suggestion. It is not a hypothetical situation either.

Hi Anglophile,

Thank you. Judging from the scene in Downton Abbey, it is indeed not a hypothetical situation. I corrected my answer. Thus not a hypothetical situation.
Thanks again.
