I am practicing some consonant sounds /r/, /rl/, /rd/, /rld/ in car, girl, word and world.
Could you please help me post an audio voice message that I can imitate? Could you also please show me a bit of explanation that we can make those sounds.
Most commonly, in normal speech, we don’t pronounce the [f] and all. We say “a glass [ə] water” or “the president [ə] the United States”, for example. It’s pronounced [ə] before a consonant in ordinary speech.
When we are reading the word by itself, or we are saying the word before a vowel, we pronounce the F as [v].
The explanation by Jamie is quite thorough. Although, if you are interested in an audio message on this issue, you can find it here.
As for the word [bat] /bæt/, I think that you are not truly asking about the meaning or semantic properties (i.e: Noun, countable) of the word itself. If you you are, then there are many good dictionaries out there, ready for you to use.
However, perhaps, you are referring to the transcription /æ/ in the word? If you are, then vowels such as /æ/ are known as diphtongs. A diphtong is a union of two vowel sounds. For more on this matter, I believe that Jamie is far more elligible and competent than I to produce the explanation for you.
Alan has made an excellent post on the pronounciation of the diphtong /æ/ in the word [bat] /bæt/ in this topic.
@ Jamie (K) :
If it is not too much of a trouble for you, would you kindly comment and make corrections on the post concerning voiced and voiceless vowels aforementioned in this post? I made quite a lengthy comment and I fear that the post can be misleading if not well checked by an expert such as you. I would be very grateful if you would do this.
Thank you for your detailed reply.
Dear sir , I am meaning what do you call these voice reading words ?
Is these special term for them ?
e.g. Suppose I want to ask someone about the voice part of suh word.
just like : Excuse me friend what is the… of this word ( What ) ?
So , I want the word which I place dots instead of it in the last sentence.
Thank you
It is a bit hard to understand you but I think what you are concerning is the International Phonetics Alphabet transcription of a word. So, the transcription of WHAT is /wɔt/.
I hope my response makes sense to you.
Thank you and regards,
