Hi, how do you pronounce the abbreviation “Ms”? I always thought it would ‘miz’ until I found this:
Remember: “Ms” is pronounced “Muzz”, where the “u” rhymes with the “u” in “put”.
So what do you say?
Thanks,
Torsten[YSaerTTEW443543]

Where did you find that? I’ve always heard it pronounced “miz”
I thought ‘miz’ was right, but it sounds like ‘mis’ to my ears. At least the natives around me pronounce that way.
I found it on an ESL website called The English Web. It’s run by Clare Whitmell, a native speaker of English.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Come to think of it, miz and muzz can be almost the same thing…

Hmm, I’ve only heard it as miz.
Muzz sounds like some kind of parody of a southern US accent.
I’ve mostly heard it pronounced “mis”.
“put” and “mis/miz” shouldn’t rhyme.
hid, kid, lid, did
vs.
put, took, look, shook
… two distinct vowel phonemes.
Native Nashvillians (aside from the twerps who mimic the Valley “occent” they hear on TV…) pronounce the “ih” vowel as “ee-uh”:
In : Ee’un
Did : Dee’ud
etc.
